ayton's Desperado Cowboy Bullets business owners, Ed and LeAnn Kemmerer (aka - Shalako Tucker and Pinto Annie) don't just make soft lead bullets; they spend their weekends "throwing lead" too. In February, they joined 600 other Cowboy Action Shooting enthusiasts in Arizona to compete in the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) National Championship—Winter Range. After five days of competition, Pinto Annie walked away with the Lady Frontier Cartridge national title. Shalako Tucker placed 25th overall.

The Kemmerers are members of the SASS affiliated club Dry Gulch Desperados, based in Milton-Freewater. They also shoot with the relatively new Pataha Rustlers club which meets once a month outside of Dayton.
SASS is dedicated to preserving the history and lore of the Old West and promoting Cowboy Action Shooting. Affiliated clubs operate in all 50 states and 18 foreign countries and have over 80,000 members. Kids as young as eight years old can compete. Members must adopt a shooting alias and wear a costume based on a character or profession of the late 19th century, B-western movies or western television series. Pinto Annie creates all her own elaborate costumes.
"We've been shooting Cowboy Action since 1999," says Pinto Annie, "and have developed wonderful friendships with people who share our interest in shooting and ‘living' the Old West."
